Biography

State Sen. Jean Leising represents Senate District 42, which serves Decatur, Fayette, Franklin, Henry, Ripley, Rush and Shelby Counties. She was elected to the Senate in 2008 after previously serving from 1988-1996. Leising serves as Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, and is a member of several other Senate Committees including Commerce & Technology, Education & Career Development, Health & Provider Services, Natural Resources, and Utilities.

A retired nurse who graduated with honors from the Good Samaritan School of Nursing in 1969, Leising currently works as a part-time travel agent and runs the family farm.

She has received numerous awards and recognitions including the Indiana Volunteer Firefighter’s Association Legislator of the Year, the American Legion of Indiana Distinguished Service Award, the National Rifle Association Defender of Freedom Award, and Indiana Farm Bureau Woman of the Year.

She and her husband Frank Thompson reside in Oldenburg. She has three children and eight grandchildren.
