Biography

State Sen. Brandt Hershman represents Senate District 7, which is composed of White County and portions of Boone, Carroll, Clinton, Jasper and Tippecanoe Counties. First elected to the Senate in 2000, Hershman currently serves as Majority Floor Leader and Chair of the Senate Committee on Tax & Fiscal Policy. In addition he chairs the Senate Committee on Joint Rules, and serves on the Rules & Legislative Procedures and Appropriations Committees.

Hershman currently serves on the Legislative Leaders Advisory Board of GOPAC and co-chairs the Labor and Economic Development Committee of the National Conference of State Legislators. Other activities include the Council of State Governments Economic Development Committee, The Indiana Rural Development Council Governing Board, the Indiana GOP Platform Committee and the Pi Kappa Phi Board of Directors.

He has received numerous awards and recognitions including The Presidential Citation from the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association in 2013, Indiana Cities and Towns 2012 Legislator of the Year, National Federation of Independent Business Guardian Award in 2012 and the President’s Award from the Association of Indiana Architects in 2008.

Hershman is a graduate of Purdue University with a B.A. in Political Science an earned his J.D. from the Robert H. McKinney School of Law. He also has a certificate in Tax Administration and Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He and his wife Lisa reside in Buck Creek.
